Very Solid Can Opener
This unit replaced a Toastmaster piece of junk that was only about 2 months old. The Toastmaster only cost me eight dollars from Odd-Job. It wasn't even worth that. Darn thing wouldn't grip cans correctly to open them. Worthless. About all it did was pierce cans. Typical routine would be to pierce can with Toastmaster then finish with old fashioned manual opener...the kind with a small blade that basically digs/cuts around the inside of the lid with seesaw motion. I got so frustrated with it I smashed it on the floor one day...and I'm a laid back guy. I got this Hamilton Beach Chrome model to replace it. Nice, solid unit with heavyweight chrome mechanism to open cans. Smooth and confident opening of cans. No hassles...it just opens cans first time, every time. Like night and day compared to the Toastmaster. Highly recommended!
Update July 26, 2006.
My Hamilton Beach is still going strong. Still give it 5 stars. Not too many products seem so solidly built...
Finally a GREAT Can Opener!
You would think that all can openers were alike but they are not. After buying several over the past few years in which none of them worked all that great, this Hamilton Beach Heavy Weight Can Opener is the one that does work great. I can not begin to say enough good things about this opener. It works as soon as you put in can in the opener. I wish i could give this 100 stars because it would be worth every one.
Hamilton Beach Heavy Weight Can Opener the best!
I can't believe the difference between this and all other can openers I have ever owned. I was sceptical about the reviews, but decided to give it a chance, as my old Rival can opener (old is relative here, it was used about 5 times before it went onto a garage shelf). I then went to a manual can opener, but stiffness in my hands made it difficult and painful to operate. After I opened about 3 cans with the new Hamilton Beach can opener, the Rival went directly into the trash. I love the feature that allows you to touch one button to pop the cutter off to clean it. I will probably buy another as a back up, because you know how it goes, anything that really works gets discontinued. Grab this one while you can!
